Abstract:
Fumigation – decontamination, which is carried out by treatment with a chemical substance in a gaseous state, which completely or mainly affects the cargo, is carried out by specialists with the appropriate specialization – fumigators. Fumigated cargo includes cargoes that, in order to preserve their commercial quality, are decontaminated directly in holds, containers, elevators, or warehouses with toxic poison chemicals (phosphine, bromomethyl, etc.), which can cause poisoning among sailors, dockers, or other contingents working with fumigated cargoes. The fumigation of grain during its sea transportation has a special specificity due to the use of extremely toxic poisons for humans, in the event of a gas leak from a leaky hold, the crew is exposed to a significant risk of the death of sailors
